Brittany played basketball
for Miami Killian Senior High in Miami, FL. She spent most her time at the
point-guard position, but moved over to shooting-guard at times. Due to numerous
injuries her junior and senior years, she first played Junior College ball in
Kansas at the Brown Mackie College where she broke the school record for most
3-pointers in a game (7 for 8) then broke her own record burying 8 for 12. She
is also among the top 5 in career assists at Brown Mackie. Her sophomore year,
Brittany was a distinguished Academic All-American. She was also team captain
both of her years playing JUCO. After Junior College, she moved on to play for
Texas State University where she was also a team captain. Prior to the start of
her senior year, she was forced to give up playing due to brain damage from
multiple concussions. To help fill the void during this time, Brittany was as a
mentor to the newcomers on the team and also volunteered as a tutor to
student-athletes. Her career-ending injury put an end to Brittany’s hopes of
playing overseas and/or professionally.
Despite the complications
Brittany experienced with her head injuries, she managed to graduate summa cum
laude (a 4.0 GPA) and was recognized as the criminal justice senior of the year.
Her career-ending injury led Brittany to finding her calling, inspiring others
through her passion, basketball. She went on to get a Master’s degree in sport
psychology from California State University, Fresno. Brittany’s thesis, UNIFORM:
A High School Sport Psychology Intervention, earned thesis of the year for the
College of Health and Human Services. The thesis entailed designing, creating,
and disseminating a sport psychology/life skills intervention to an inner-city
high school football team. Brittany graduated once again with a 4.0 GPA. During
her time in Fresno, she was also an assistant coach at Fresno Pacific
University. She helped bring the team from an 8 – 21 record to 19 – 12 her last
season with the Sunbirds.
Brittany is currently
attending Florida State University. She is planning on obtaining a second
Master’s in exercise physiology while she earns her Ph.D. in Sport Psychology.
She will also be teaching an undergraduate sport psychology class this upcoming
year at FSU and will be the President of her applied student organization.
Brittany plans on studying the effects of mental training on hypertension for
her dissertation. After school, Brittany would like to coach competitively at
the college level or own her own business training athletes, mentally and
physically.
Brittany is very excited
to be a new addition to the Comets family and already feels at home! She hopes
to help change the lives of our youth through coaching and is grateful for the
opportunity to do so.
