Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens
By Sean Covey
(Compliments of
Southwest Texas Women's Basketball)

  1. Be Proactive - By taking responsibility for your decisions, instead of merely reacting, you can say I am in the driver's seat of my destiny, not just a passenger being driven by someone else.

  2. Begin with the End in Mind - By assessing your talents and strengths, your values and mission in life, you can establish a clear sense of direction.

  3. Put First Things First - By setting priorities, and keeping them straight, you will gain both will and won't power, the courage to act in the face of fear and the strength to say no when everyone else is saying yes.

  4. Think Win-Win - By adopting a frame of mind that says life is an all-you-can-eat buffet, there's plenty of success to go around, you can break free from destructive patterns of competing and comparing.

  5. Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood - By learning t listen with the eyes and the heart, not just the ears, you will discover the key to true communication and compassion.

  6. Synergize - By meeting new people, exploring cultures, exchanging viewpoints and asking others' opinions, you will reap the benefits of a world made up of different people and perspectives.

  7. Sharpen the Saw - By taking time out without guilt to renew and strengthen life's four key parts - the body, the mind, the heart, and the soul - you will stay in balance and revved up to meet life's challenges.
