Mickey began playing basketball at
Merritt Island High School, his senior year under his father. He was awarded a 4-year scholarship to
Florida A&M University where he lettered 4 years and won the Academic Award Junior and Senior years. He
has coached men and women's basketball at Florida A&M University. He has also had stints coaching high school
boys and girls basketball teams in the FAMU Upward Bound Programs. He started and developed the women's
basketball program at FAMU and took it from a Division II program to Division I status. They led the state
of Florida in attendance for 10 consecutive seasons and turned in 10 straight winning seasons, posting 199
wins. They posted wins over then 10th ranked Auburn University, University of Florida, FSU, Miami, Minnesota
and others.

In 1996 he was inducted into the FAMU Sports Hall of Fame, for success with the women's basketball program. One
of only 2 coaches to have ever won conference championships in both men and women's basketball at the same school.
Served as the Head Men's Basketball for 4 seasons and led FAMU to only it's second MEAC Conference Tournament
Championship in 1999.
