Tournament Event Rules

  • Comets Basketball reserves all rights and discretion to all tournament events, inclusive of game schedules, grade pools groupings and rules.
  • Grades:  3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th.  Grade level pools may be modified to facilitate registered teams as appropriate.
  • Ball Specifications – Girls 28.5″ and Boys official size.
  • Length of Games 3rd-6th Grade Levels – Two 12 minute halves, with stop clock.
  • Length of Games 7th – 12th Grade Levels – Two 14 minute halves, with stop clock.
  • 3-5 minutes for warm-up and half time (Subject to change).
  • There will be no :30 second shot clock.  There is a :10 second back court violation.
  • 2 full and 2 :30 timeouts per game to stop the clock.
  • Overtime – 2 minutes until there is a winner; 1 :30 timeout during overtime periods.
  • High school rules apply to all games.  Players go on the release of the ball to enter lane on foul shots.
  • Running Clock – At the time one team gains a lead of thirty (30) or more points on opposing team, the clock will not be stopped (except for a time out) until the trailing team brings the point difference to twenty points or less.
  • No-Press Rules – At the time one team gains a lead of thirty (30) or more points during the second half of a game, they must play defense behind the half-court line.  A team’s first offense will result in a Warning.  Any team’s second or subsequent offense will result in a 2-shot Administrative Technical Foul.
  • Technical fouls – When a technical foul is called play resumes where it left off. After the technical is shot, the ball is returned to the team that had possession at the time of foul.
  • Protests – No protests will be allowed during this tournament.
  • Team Rosters will be limited to 15 players per team and players may not participate in more than one grade/age division or on more than one team.
  • Ensure that players have removed all jewelry before entering the game or at the referee’s discretion, the game will begin/continue without that player, until the jewelry is removed.  In this event, the team will be allowed a substitution.

  • The home team is the first team listed in the pool or on top of the bracket and wears light uniforms. The visitor team is the second team listed in the pool or on the bottom of the bracket and wears dark uniforms.
  • All coaches must register prior to their first game.  If teams do not register with tournament, it will result in the forfeit of all games.  No exceptions and there will be no refunds!
  • All coaches/managers/team personnel should will be provided tournament passes and should keep wrist bands visible at all times, so that they are easily identifiable to enter gym facilities.
  • Team’s statistician is not allowed to sit at the official scorer’s table.
  • Only eligible players plus a maximum of three (3) coaches may be on the team’s bench.
  • Multiple Team Participation – A player is not allowed to participate on two different teams within the same grade level. A player who meets all eligibility guidelines may only participate in up to two different grade levels within the same tournament provided both teams belong to the same organization, and have the same identical team name. However, a player may not participate in a Semi-Final or Championship game unless he/she participated in at least one game with each team prior to the Semi-Final or Championship game as part of the same tournament. A player who meets all eligibility rules and participates on more than one team during the same tournament may only play a maximum of six games within any two-day span and must be listed on both rosters.
  • Teams must clean their bench area after each game. Teams should report to gym 45 Minutes prior to their scheduled game times and be ready to play 5 minutes after previous game has ended.  Game time is forfeit time.
  • Only participating team’s balls permitted in gym facilities and no bouncing balls in gym during games or in general access areas.
  • Comets Basketball uses YBOA Pool Play Tie Breaker rules and defers to YBOA rules and regulations as needed.
  • Scorbot.com is used by Comets Basketball for all tournament events scheduling.
